Making Update #2: Knitting on the Go
It's 100 degrees in Texas, and at the time I am writing this, I'm still wearing my Pop Life Cardigan all over town. It makes me uncomfortably hot and I don't care. Is this the high you knitters have been chasing this whole time that I never understood? Cuddling under a blanket you've made is wonderful, don't get me wrong. But wearing something you made is maybe even better? Even if it does make you sweat. I see some original cardigan designs in my future. This is just too much fun.
Anyway, this week I have been on the road, in the mountains, and holed up in beautiful, reclusive Colorado cabins with my family and partner. Which means I've been doing a lot of knitting in short little bursts on comfy couches, scenic porches, and in passenger seats. Here's what I've been working on!
Nothing new off the needles this week. Life, travels, and maker ADD took over. You understand.
works in progress
This has been one of those projects that took me by surprise. I had a few hanks of fingering weight yarn laying around my apartment that I wasn't sure what to do with (one of those impulse buys at my LYS from ages ago), and I decided on a whim to cast on a simple triangular shawl to practice with. As the shawl went along, I kind of fell in love with the color work and textures I've been experimenting with. It's a completely make-it-up-as-I-go project. I've been keeping notes, and would love to write up a pattern and work up a cleaner version (using a few hanks of yarn on their way from Noble Character Crafts, eee!) if it's something people seem interested in. But for now, it's entirely for me, and entirely fun.
I know, I know, I started another project I shouldn't have. But We Are Knitters' simple, adorable Yellowstone cardigan kit was the perfect easy project to keep my hands busy on the road trip to Colorado I started with my family this week. I'm still in the beginning stages, so no photos yet, but it's working up so fast and pretty that I know I'll have a few more of these on my needles before the holiday season is over!
I've made very little progress on this one this week. New ideas and projects took over. I left my almost-finished tee back in Texas while I'm driving around Colorado with the family (it's so close to being done, I didn't feel like it would consume enough driving and cabin time), so this will be put on hold for the next couple weeks.
I actually ended up frogging this project and starting over. The original idea I had in my head didn't pan out quite as well as I was hoping, and the dimensions weren't quite what I wanted. So I'm refining my design and planning to start over when I get back home. Ah, well, it's all part of the process, right? The bright side is that this yarn is a dream to work with and works up so quick and squishy, so I have no problem starting over with it!
Chunky Striped Blanket
I'm still working on this cozy thing. It's a little bit tough to motivate myself to work on this project these days, because it's really warm and the yarn makes my hands sweat. And, again, it was too cumbersome to bring with me on my trip. So progress is slow, but I'm still planning to have the blanket finished and pattern written up before the fall pattern drop.
I have quite a few projects on my short list, including some original knitwear ideas, but nothing planned out enough for me to write about just yet. I get excited about new things and want to announce them, but I'll hold off until I have enough space on my yarn shelves to commit to something new.
